Every year, around the end of
December, I start brainstorming for birthday gift ideas because my best friend
is born in January. This year, I wanted to make her something special and
personalized for the fifth birthday that we celebrate together. I had many ideas and options but I settled
for this one: an open-when box. It was an innovative and creative idea that
would definitely make my sister from other mister’s birthday last a little bit
longer as every now and then she would open a letter and find a little bit of
love and happiness in it.
After choosing my gift, I started
working on it. I only had 4 days to do so because my finals were over on Monday
and the birthday party was on Friday.
First, I looked for inspiration
on blogs and websites to see what could possibly be done. Then, I jotted down
some of my own ideas on a piece of paper. For example, I wrote: “open when… you
feel like giving up” and added between brackets “motivational and inspirational
quotes”, etc.
Second, I made a list of all the
material needed: papers, envelopes, confetti, some snacks and candy, quotes,
etc.
Third, I went and got everything
I needed and I immediately started working on my project (It was already
Thursday and I was late!). It took me a while to finish things and I had to go
back to the bookshop again to get some things that I had forgot to buy but the
gift was done in time and my best friend loved it! She thought it was so unique
and wanted to open all the envelopes at once but I warned her not to and made
her promise me that she won’t check the post on the blog before she opens all
of the letters. Hopefully she won’t!
Tips:
-This DIY takes a lot of time and
needs a lot of work and patience. So, if you are in a hurry just like I was,
don’t choose it and go for something easier.
- Try to make this box as
personal as possible. Whether it is for your girlfriend/boyfriend, friend or
brother/sister, add your personal touch and use inside jokes and common
memories.
